Santa Claus Beard - new verses added

Post by John Sargent » July 5th, 2018, 10:19 pm

It is 1:15 AM. I woke up in the middle of the night. It's one of those "sleep writing" songs. Ill review it in the morning

I want a Santa Clause beard
It’s what I really want to grow
It’ll be white as the snow
Not one that you can buy from Sears

I want a bright red suit
With a lot of fur trim on the collar and hat
Don’t want to look too thin or fat
And I need a pair of big black boots

And by the way, I want a sleigh
That is pulled by eight reindeer
We’ll fly around on Christmas Day
They’ll want to work for me ‘cause I have a beard

I want a Santa Claus laugh
When little kids see me in the street
They’ll want to come up and meet me
And get my autograph

They’ll tell me their name
And that they’ve been good good good good
Like their mommy and their daddy and their teacher said they
Should should should should

When people see me
Everyone will cheer
For the whiskers that volunteered
To grow on my face and be, a Santa Claus beard

It turns out that is NOT the final edit. I've got some more work to do to rearrange verses and then make a better recording

The song was too short so I added a few new verses

Santa Claus Beard

I want a Santa Claus (I) beard
It’s what I (V) really want to grow
It’ll be (V7) white as the snow
Not one that (I) you can buy from Sears

(pause)

I want a bright red (I) suit
With a lot of fur (V) trim on the collar and hat
Don’t want to (V7) look too thin or fat
And I need a pair of (I) big black boots

And by the (IV) way, I want a sleigh
That is (I) pulled by (IV) eight rein(I)deer
We’ll (vi) fly around on Christmas Day
All (V) because I have a beard (pause)

I’ll laugh a Santa (I) laugh
When little kids (V) see me on the street
They’ll want to (V7) come up and meet
And (I) get my autograph

They’ll tell me their (I) name
And that they’ve been (V) good good good good
Like their mommy and their daddy and their teacher said they
(I) Should should should should

(IV) When I appear in public
(I) Every (IV) one will (I) cheer
For the (vi) whiskers that volunteered
To (V) grow on my face and be, a Santa Claus beard (pause)

(Instrumental break)

I’m gonna move up (I) North
About as far up (V) North as I can go
Maybe as far as the North Pole
And then I’ll (I) travel back and forth

And I’ll make (I) toys
Some I’ll (V) make all by myself
Some will be made by the elves
That I (I) keep in my employ

(IV) And as I grow much older
And (I) look back (IV) through the (I) years
I’ll (vi) be glad I never shaved and (V) grew (pause)
A Santa Claus (I) beard

You have a very nice sense of humor, the world needs things like that one.

Thanks. I don't go for very professional sound or images in my recordings. Once things are polished a bit I enjoy playing them live.

I've decided to drop those new verses because they stray from the beard topic. The first verse last line now reads "I'm gonna grow it down to here" I suspect that "Sears" may not be long for this world.
Second line of second verse I'm changing "fur" to "white" as it is a better descriptor of the Santa suit.

I did add a new verse and also did some lyric tweaks. I wonder if this song has commercial value.
