Hi, first post here. Been building some Teles and have been obsessed with wooden pickguards. Today I made my first wooden control plate and figured I'd better find out if it needs special grounding of some sort or will all of the pots and switch suffice. Any info would be appreciated. Here's a rough image of the work in progress...
I should think you'll be ok with the normal grounding. That is, all the electronic parts, pickup frames, pots, switch, jack. You shouldn't need any shielding. The bridge is grounded via the bridge pickup mounting screws, but some folks run a separate wire to the underside of the tailpiece and just sandwich it between it and the body, but it seldom helps IMHO.
"Well, I hope the neighbors like THIS song!"
Thanks for the reply. I was 99.5% certain it wouldn't matter a bit (strat pickguards would make a good case for it not being needed) but was fishing for confirmation. I always run that extra ground from under the tele bridge - figure it can't hurt.
