Band news - things are picking up

Postby jwmartin » June 11th, 2012, 9:52 am

I posted on another thread about my cover band playing a private party at the end of this month. We have now booked our 1st official bar gig. Our singer/guitarist and our drummer's birthdays are both at the end of July and out singer/guitarist has been saying he wants to have his 50th birthday party be our band and a friend of his band playing. He got in touch with a pretty nice bar that is part of a bowling alley here and got us booked for July 28. We have to provider our own PA, but we have that covered. They invited us in this Wednesday night to practice and make sure our PA is enough to cover the room. They said they are dead on Wednesday nights, so we can practice all we want. They asked what our band's name was so they could start promoting and we said we'd have to get back to them cause we didn't know yet. We all threw some ideas out and settled on "Dead Man's Hand". There are a lot of bands using that, but none in our area that I can find.

Edit: "not" is not the same word as "now"

That looks really good. Of course, if we ever play a double-bill, we'll have to "negotiate".

Last night's practice went pretty well. We were a little rusty after not practicing for 3 weeks, but got back in the groove after a few songs. A few friends came out to hear us and a guy from the band that is playing there this weekend was setting up his gear. A few people wandered in over the night and we got some applause from strangers. We made sure to announce that this was a practice so they didn't think we were terrible since we had to restart a couple of songs and were talking to each other between songs. Our next few practices are dedicated to getting these songs down tight and setting the order and flowing between each song. We'll run practice like a show.
