We have a songlist of about 120 songs right now, and will usually go in to a gig with about 60 of them selected in the set lists for that venue. Plus, when a fan requests one not on the set lists, we'll do our best to fake our way through it.

"Do y'all know 'Poke Salad Annie'?" No . . . but we'll do it anyway if you don't mind us making it up as we go along!

It SOUNDS like a mighty feat of memorization, until you realize that most of the songs we do are various combos of I IV V with an occasional ii tossed in

I've discovered to a minor extent that I just sort of migrate to the next chord sometimes without thinking about it. Well, lots of times on songs I play often. Most of the time on the really common ones. I'm beginning to sense that on songs I don't play a whole lot. Even things I'm trying to figure out. Maybe the better part of a decade of playing is starting to pay off on that ear training thing.

Yea, just the fact of actually practicing the songs and playing them with other people reinforces the learning. I used to try to learn songs just sitting by myself and I would play through it a few times, then move on. It might be a week before I tried it again and, of course, couldn't remember it. Being in a band and playing them over and over drills them into your head.

it's amazing. the band got together not to rehearse but to talk, plan, etc. we all feel that two rehearsals a month will be sufficient to keep the momentum going and not have the songs feel stale or grow tiresome. today I looked at my song book with our set list. I remember every song; all the chords, changes etc. I still have to keep straight the different solos and fills I use for each one...as you remember they all ran together at one point and I felt lost. not so much now. But I am amazed and not by the fact that I know this many songs. if I can do it so can you.
knowing 60 songs doesn't seem impossible now.

no plans for a tour yet. we hope to have many gigs to come. we need to earn our dues.
next Friday we play another rural town. this one has a main street. Augies Bar in Bangor, Wisconsin.
we make 100$ each.

here is an exterior shot. not outstanding as architecture goes. it has been a bar since the horse and buggy days.
there is a photo on display inside showing horse and carts parked outside and a group of men unloading a wagon
of musical instruments (brass).
the owners retired and a group of friends bought the place and brought it all up to code. it retains the old charm on the inside.
the room we played in was a dance hall in the old days. there are wood benches lining three walls.
it is now insulated and properly wired. the acoustics are fantastic.
