Not that I want to argue, but here's another example of an artist who seems to want people to actually be able to learn and play his songs.
Gordon Lightfoot has both the lyrics and chords to most of his songs on his web site.
Including some songs that he wrote, but never released or recorded

That's quite a find, Kent. Thanks for sharing.

Nope, it's not an argument at all. If he put his stuff up there for us and with chords to boot, that pretty much sums up his intentions. No disclaimer about recording and selling his songs on your own, though, but that has got to be assumed, eh?

I was thinking about it these days. Did you remember Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451? I don't want to reveal the ending of the book but perhaps a similar approach could be applied here...

Wow, that's really cool.

The Barenaked Ladies' Ed Robertson did a quick video tutorial on the song Crazy

It's cool to see artists doing this stuff. Even Lady Antebellum guitarist got into the action to teach the song Need You Now.

Rui Veloso (see my avatar) had several song in his web (http://www.ruiveloso.net/) and an extra in one of his DVDs is 30' video in which he explains how to play several of his songs and how the people plays incorrectly because they use different chords (very fun).

BTW he has a new DVD... I have to return to Portugal... 8)

Buck Dharma has some tab on his site. I think artists want people to play their stuff. I think they only care about getting paid for their records.

And Dream Theater (and Liquid Tension Experiment): http://www.dreamtheater.net/media_tabs.php

However, they are publishing the songs made by themselves. The problem here (GN) is many song (all?) used as lessons have copyright and that is very much stuff, it is a lot of work!

On the other hand, not all the songs are equally interesting for visitors. Usually you want to learn (with) songs that you know. I mean, I prefer to learn to play a Beatles song than a, for example, Buck Dharma song, basically because I never heard about the band, others will say the same about Veloso, etc.

Any update?

Do you remember "The Major of Zalamea"? I commented it some posts ago. Today a newspaper published they will play a new adaptation that it is not registered in that association (the newspaper does not say the license that the new authors are using). The link (I'm sorry, Spanish only).

Thanks for that. I haven't seen that sketch for years. It's truly inspirational.

Having dots would make it very difficult to pick things up, wouldn't it? 8)

Unbelievable, but why on earth did you cave so readily, you can always save a copy of the site and host it somewhere else. What good is this site now? All your years of hard work and dedication have gone up in smoke and for what? You should be putting up more of a fight than this. Without tabs you won't have any visitors anyway. Lawyers are all about scare tactics and you bought it, if some random dude sent you a letter would you act upon it, no, of course not. Put the tabs back and fight this.

Guitar Noise isn't really a guitar tab site. I think a lot of visitors are here for what we have other than tab. But I guess we'll see.

Thanks for the comments.
