Gig Report: Southern Roots @The Ville, Or Jinxed Again!

Post by Moonrider » April 13th, 2013, 7:57 pm

Man.

This is IT.

We rolled up @ 6PM, spent 2 hours setting up. We did a quick run through of a few songs "in process" for the set list.

The house was filling up, we had the ones who sat through sound check primed and ready to party.

The ventilation fans in the kitchen broke down, they didn't have parts to replace them. Fumes were rolling into the customer areas

They closed the place for the night 5 minutes before we were supposed to start.

Playing guitar and never playing for others is like studying medicine and never working in a clinic.

That is terrible. All the work of setting up and tearing down has to be balanced by the fun of playing live.

Setup + soundcheck = 3 hours, and loadout usually takes about half that. A four hour show means we're on-site for 8 hours. Plus our singer had a 1 1/2 hour drive each way.

We were NOT happy campers.

The punters were pretty vocal with their disappointment when it was announced. We made the manager do it. "YOU tell them, we ain't gonna!"

That sounds about the same as us. I always say the pay is for setting up and tearing down. We play for free.
