Volume cuts out

Post by tinsmith » January 1st, 2013, 8:32 am

I have a Marshall AVT 50.....& rarely play out & am guilty for letting it sit unused for long periods of time.

Anyway, when I finally do decide to play, I'll be pickin' away & the sound would die.....cut out & you could hardly hear it......It may do this several times intermittently and stay off for several minutes & then stay on & never give me any trouble. When it happens the amp is already pretty well warmed up.....

Is that the key...let it warm up for a long time.
Last night warmed it up for a long time & no problems.

I know there is one tube for the preamp....could it time to replace it?
In general, it hasn't been played to it's full extent....

is your guitar an active one? may need to replace the battery. otherwise, check your plate resistor.

well then find a schematic for your amp and check your plate resistor with a mulimeter. if you get outrageous resistance then its probably gone bad

i would also remove and reseat the tube a couple times to get rid of any gunk.

i had this same problem with a vox amp there were cracks in the pcb board.. took it to an amp tech hesaid the board was 300 bucks if he could get it so he made the repairs to the board that it came with by creating jumpers over the cracks..never had the problem again. he said when the tubes heated up the board enough it would expand and the circut would be broken. since i never had the problem again id say he was right and he did a good job fixing it..
