Very (very very) cheap mic - good reviews.

As its a regular question on here, thought I'd share this (also Sound on Sound reviewed) cheap mic with everyone. Retails at £25 (yup, no lie) - now, ya not going to get Abbey Road sounds with something that cheap, but the review really praised it for the price.

Superlux Sonata EC0H6A Back-electret condenser microphone

Said its particular good on vocals, but could capably handle acoustic guitars and some other instruments. Requires phantom power (so check your interface!).

One quote from SoS: "If you're in need of something that is both very affordable and capable of producing results that are at least in the same ball park as more costly studio mics, I don't think the Sonata will disappoint: it produces results that are far better than its price suggests."

I'm getting around to it. My main problem (aside from singing v. v. v. badly) is that my only amp is my big marshall combo, which I can't mic and record. I'm loathe to try to record my guitar (the possible saving grace of any tune I might do) until I've sorted out what's delaying my fender blues jr and have a slight chance to redeem myself.

but, I will get onto it. both the recording and the amp sorting thing.

update - Fender didn't send the amp. Apparently Fender (in the UK, at least) have just bought GRetsch and a bunch of other guitar companies, and their UK offices are in a huge mess as a result. So, my amp has been sitting there, unsent, despite several calls over the last two months from Curly's. They offered me the one they've had in store since the order was placed, but they'd offered to order a new one at the start, which I was way more pleased with, so hopefully it'll get sorted soon. They're gonna call me back about it.

Superlux condenser mics are excellent. I have been using CM-H8A's for several years. It is the only mic I use for recording vocals.

They are by far, the best condensers you can get for $100. I have bought quite a few other mics in that price range, and none of them sound near as good.

Wow, thanks for the info Scrybe (and everyone). I've been looking for a good condenser mic for vocals. I have a good dynamic mic, but even with that my voice sounds flat and lifeless. I'll have to check this bad-boy out!
