SSG10-Week27 Pre-Multimedia Church

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11619853

===========Revised Version===============

Pre-multimedia church with all your charm
This is the new day and it’s state of the art
Your stained glass windows had to go
They needed a dark room to enjoy the show but we miss you
Yes, we miss you

Pre-multimedia church with all your charm
This is the new day and it’s state of the art
Your padded wooden pews with communion juice stains
Were lumpy, smelled funky and caused back pains but we miss you
Yes, we miss you

You’re ceiling fans were noisy and blew hot air
We sat there sweating with helicopter hair
You’re pillars down the aisle blocked our view
You’re sound system coughed and crackled too but we miss you
Yes, we miss you

Pre-multimedia church with all your charm
This is the new day and it’s state of the art
Your hymn books weren’t hip but we knew them all
My wife and I were married inside your walls; we miss you
Yes, we miss you

Good effort James, straight to the point. It has a nice simplicity and tightness to it on the read, I havent heard it yet.

Your padded wooden pews
where did you go to church ? where I was bought up we had no such luxury :)

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the post :D

>where did you go to church ?

The old sanctuary was built in 1971.

I can't find many pics on the web.

I like the concept linked to a space, good sense description. If I understand the theme correctly it is a church remodeling, but I am a bit confused as to tense. Is it in the past, in progress, about to happen?

Part of this verse is past tense part is present tense, the rest of the song description of the pre-multimedia church seems to be in past tense.

For the music once again another catchy tune! It has that upbeat gospel feel, but I am wondering what would happen if you somehow change or contrasted the music between the description of new church (catchy) and old (less catchy?). Just some observations (for the two cents that they are worth) :)

Thanks, Andy. :D

You're right about the conflict of verb tenses. I'll clean that up; hopefully later tonight ;)

Is anyone else having trouble with "quotes" in the post and smilies? Mine don't work when I click on them anymore. :s

I did try to use an organ sound for some parts and synth sounds on other parts, but maybe the effect was too subtle.
....maybe some kind of church organ hymn-ish lick in the intro....thinking, thinking, thinking.

Smilies aren't working for me either. So pre-smilies LOL. Just an idea, was there a musical difference in how music was presented then & now? Choir, difference in vocals, distortion for the crackled sound, clapping, different effects?

Thanks, Andy.

>was there a musical difference in how music was presented then & now?

Yes, I'm not sure how much more contrast I'd want in such a short song where the lyrics are to take a bit more of the focus on this one, but I appreciate your enthusiasm for experimentation ;)

>Choir, difference in vocals, distortion for the crackled sound, clapping, different effects?

Those are all good ideas....to be honest, I don't want to put that kind of time into the bells and whistles right now....but I did add an organ riff at the top :D......and got the verb tense worked out.
