I've bought the DVD and I'm just waiting for it to arrive. Because of some crossed wires, Fred was kind enough to let me download the book in advance.

Without going into the mechanics of RSoG, which is what you are paying for, I can tell you that Fred's method does give you that correlation. He could have done it, using conventional nomenclature, but that would, IMHO, have led to a slight confusion in application. I was once was involved in a very long discussion on time and it was noticeable that we got into a lot of problems, using the accepted names for time periods - because we had all grown up with them having a specific meaning and looking at them from a different perspective (but still using the accepted names) was muddying the waters. In the end we used the term "Bing-Bongs", which allowed us to create examples, which didn't carry any of the baggage that terms like "minute" and "second" brought with them.

So it is with RSoG - Fred uses Mama, etc. as alternative names, to get away from the baggage of conventional thinking.

It doesn't, in any way, attempt to re-write music theory. It simply takes a new perspective on how music theory can be applied to guitar playing. Planetalk apparently does the same, but from yet another perspective.

I have only had this DVD fo about 5 days and I've already had several EUREKA moments . Now I'm playing with old songs and finding all the family members and making progressions that sound heavenly and soloing over them. It's nice to get out of the box penatonics for a change and I knew some theory and it makes more sense now that I can relate the chords to it and how they all fit. I've only been playing guitar for little over three years but just as a hobbyist and never really jammed with anyone but after working with this for only five days I think I would feel alot more comfortable if I did. Most books that I work out of get boring for me after awhile too and I tend to stop in the middle or so. But this book is short and to the point. I've done read through it 3 times and watched every video but still have tons to grasp. Good buy for anyone.

Is the DVD region coded i.e. region 1 DVDs are for the US and region 4 is for Australia?

(I bought a guitar DVD (30 Day Guitar Workout) from Amazon yesterday without thinking and by the time I checked the region code they had already shipped. I just hope at least one of the computers or DVD players in the house can play region 1.)

This is a problem that I'm currently trying to clear with Fred. I have the DVD and it is coded for Region 1, as far as I can tell, without forcing my DVD burner to sacrifice any more region changes. He should really code it for region 0, to make it international.

PC DVD players usually allow for a limited number of region changes, then stick at the last one set.

This problem is a new one to me. I still don't completely understand what it is, but I think I'm getting closer. So, is it a setting I need to set in my burner program? Set it to 0 for international...is that what I'm hearing? Unfortunately I have sold a whole handful to other regions over time. This is the first time I've heard of it. So, I hope anyone who is experiencing this problem knows that I will do what I can to fix it and send a new one their way. I don't want to hinder my international customers.

Peru is region 4 the same as Australia. Here are the region codes:

Use the "Administative Tools" to open the "Computer Management" window. Find the "Device Manager" and click on it.
Open up the DVD tree by clicking on the "+", then right-click on the DVD player/burner and click on "Properties". Click on the "DVD Regions" tab. I think that you'll probably find that it is now set to "1". You'll probably also see a message, telling you how many more times that the region can be changed.

Thanks, greybeard. Mine's set to region 4 which is right for Australia and I have four changes left which will come on handy.

Well, I'm with the ACCC on this one. From now on I'm going to do whatever it takes to make sure my discs are encoded for region 0, or "region free".

Alright, I talked to my Finnish buddy and he gave me a couple of links. I checked out a program that is supposed to be able to set the region and encrypt it to be region free. So, I'm pretty sure I now have a region free disc, but I don't know how to be positive of that. Does anyone know how to check to see if that's true? The problem is that to set a particular region, you have to insert a DVD from that region. To reset my burner to Region 2 I have to put in a region 2 DVD and use the Admin tools to change it.

Here is a tip for any of you who are getting annoyed with all the "fancy" background noises on my website and on the DVD. I wish I had made it more obvious how to mute them. Just click on the little box in the lower right corner and they will toggle off and on.

When the page loads you'll see a small printer icon inside the top right frame of the flash module. Click that and you'll see the printable page. One of the best learning strategies you can use is to try to draw the pattern onto the fretboard. What's so great about that, as opposed to just trying to watch your fingers, is that it leaves evidence of your work. In other words, if you watch your fingers and they get off track, you may or may not notice right away. Then when you do, it might be too late for your mind to backtrack and nail the trouble area that threw you off. With putting it down on paper, you can always see the trail you left. This will help you identify the problem areas. Then you will know where to pay special attention, and keep doing that until the problem goes away for good.
