Semi-hollow Recommendations

Due to tough times, I had to sell all my guitars save one acoustic. It's unplayable due to the arrow holes unfortunately. The good news is the tough times are over and I'll be coming into some money. That being said, I'd like to get back into it.

I'm looking into semi-hollows and possibly hollow bodies as I need something lighter (tone and weight wise). I don't know much about these guitars so anything to narrow down the search is much appreciated. My budget is $2,000. Give or take.

What about a Thinline Telecaster? It's not an ES335 or a Gretsch, but it gets talked about as a decent workhorse.

Thanks Alan.

I forgot about the thin lines. I would prefer an ES but all $2K would get me is a Studio. I've only tried the Epiphone Studios and didn't like them. Not sure if the Gibsons are better. I could raise my budget to $3K but would be pushing it.

Don't know if you've looked at Ibanez, but their Artcore and Artstar lines (both hollow and semihollow body styles) used to be quite good for the price (less than half your current budget). The reason I say "used to be" is because I've not played a new one in a few years. Because it's not the name brand people jump up for Ibanez tends to get overlooked but they usually have very good workmanship and sound at a very reasonable cost.

Another option would be Godin. Their 5th Avenue and Montreal Premiere lines are also within your budget with some models being close to half your budget. And (strictly personally speaking) I think Godin guitars are exceptional quality sound for the price.

Best of luck with this and I look forward to hearing about your new guitar some day soon.

I have a Gibson ES335 and an Epiphone Casino and love them both.

But then, I'm in love with P90 pickups.

I forgot about the Artcore series too. Not sure if there is an Ibanez dealer near me but I'll definitely look into it.

Thanks all.

I really like the Epiphone Casino. ... but Lately Ive been really lusting after the Epiphone WildKat. Its smaller like Les Paul size, but is a hollow body. I really like them. Feels nice, looks Hot, and sounds real cool.

Sorry guys. I was hoping to have a new guitar by now but the money I was expecting hasn't come in. Looks like it'll be a few months.

I might go with an acoustic as it doesn't require an amp. I've been looking into Rainsong guitars. I'll keep you posted!
