Re: Poor Mans Copyright is bogus?!?

One Capital Markets Paralegal here. If you sign across the seals and sellotape over the signatures it is to all intents and purposes impossible to get into that envelope and tamper with the contents and get everything back together. A blind person in the dark could tell if it had been tampered with,...

Re: Acoustic Recording

Check your Soundcard settings - you might need to specify the input channel.

Re: Jamey Andreas' Principles book?

Jazzarati has the original Principles book and I was banging on at him for a review. Give him time, and I'm sure we will all benefit.

Re: Hi, I'm new to playing the guitar, is this boo

Hiya, I figure that if a book - any book - teaches you how to do something you couldn't do before then it has some value. I've also been reading one of Jamey Andreas's newsletters today (The alchemy Of Art) which is highly critical of exactly how most books get you playing. All of this contradictory...

Re: Heaphones

Sennheiser do a superb range of wireless headphones with a range of some 300m. They should be available at most good audio retailers, although I got mine when I was living in Germany.

Best,

Re: New song for intermediates

David's method is far easier, but if you've had some legal training like me then I just know you'll prefer the complicated route.

Re: New song for intermediates

On the Home Page, there's a box on the top right of the page - it's got a picture of Elvis.

"Details" underneath the "Your e-mail" prompt

On the next page, above the words "Sign Up" you'll see a link to "Archives" - clickety click and there you are, in all their glory.

Re: Rules for lyrics?

Hi, hfairfax, and welcome to Guitar Noise, No - there are no rules that say the chorus has to use exactly the same words each time. Check out some of the lyrics posted in the Songwriting Forum pages here - sometimes contributors use a repeated chorus and sometimes not. Also, check out Songwriting fo...

Re: Browsing the MP3s

I guess it could be something to do with the transmission - they sound fine on a CD through headphones (yeah, I know, talk about pretentious, listening to myself through cans). Toothbrush was how I got back into writing, and the credit for my doing so belongs to Nick, Ryan Spencer and particularly L...

Re: anyone in central Florida??

Honestly, Portia, such modesty.

Saying you "write songs and sing" is a bit like saying

"Hendrix played guitar", or "Beethoven wrote tunes"

You should have no problem getting personnel.

Re: Official Fan Clubs

I think you'll find the Internet is now the way bands distribute the same info that a fan club used to do for them - but it's now done from an e-mail newsletter out of an official web presence and it doesn't normally cost the member to belong. At the same time, the number of unofficial appreciation ...

Re: How to make lyrics "vague"

Hi, pk,

I know the feeling - I can't write abstract either.

A story in a song is not really a problem, so long as you concentrate on just three or four key points. If you go on too long with the and-then-and-then-and-then the listener is going to get bored.

Re: singing

That's OK - I sound dreadful, too, but it doesn't stop me.

A few lessons from a decent teacher wouldn't do you any harm. Ask down at your local music shop - they'll probably have a list of tutors they can put you in touch with.

Best,

Alan

Re: what to do after high school?

I have a fairly well-paid job, so there's next to no job satisfaction - I take the view that the less than exciting job pays enough to allow me to do what I enjoy and that makes my guitar and my social life all that more enjoyable.
