Re: More Knock Off Strat Woes: UPDATED with sample

He's having a wild swing at me. It doesn't change my opinion - both soft rubber and silicone are used to dampen vibrations. Furthermore, if you follow the instructions, to the letter, you are barely going to have room to put a grommet between plate and body. In order to function properly, the plate ...

Re: More Knock Off Strat Woes: UPDATED with sample

Never tried it, but I think that putting rubber/silicone tubing under the plate would dampen vibrations and destroy sustain. I get the inpression that your problem is that one or more springs are not under sufficient tension and are flapping around, as you play. Another possibility, albeit a wild on...

Sounds like you have disconnected an earth wire - when you touch the metal, you create the missing earth connection.

Re: Tascam guitar trainers?

I have one. I use it for backing tracks that I can solo over. You can save a small section from the music (8 seconds at decent quality), loop it slow and learn that section. It has a few simple effects. You can make a reasonable attempt at removing part of the song (e.g. voice) and add your own. It ...

Re: Using .008's

There is a theory that says that the tension should be balanced on all strings. How do you do that? Well, if you use D'Addarrios it's easy. They have a pdf file on their site, which lists all their string gauges and their tension at specific tunings. Just find the tension that fits and build a set f...

Re: Lead volume

Odd, but in the 60's quite a few guitars came with a lead/Rhythm switch. Set your lead level and, when you switch to Rhythm, it drops the volume by a predefined amount (depending on the setup).

Makes more sense to me than adding stomp boxes to the chain

Re: Strumming with plectrums

I suspect that you're showing too much of the pick to the string. You only need to catch the string with the very tip of the pick, no more than 1/16th of an inch.

Re: What Model Of Guitar is this?

Samick is actually a Korean company, which produces guitars for many well-known names. Until Gibson opened the Chinese factory, they produced most, if not all, all the Asian-built Epiphone guitars, amongst many others. In 2001 (I believe) they were reputed to have produced 60% of all the guitars bui...

Re: please help I'm not sure how to get over this

I'm sort of going to have a foot in both camps. I agree, to some extent, with your teacher. I also disagree with him. You should practice for as long as you feel you are progressing and enjoying practice. Once you reach the point, where you can't concentrate any more, it's time to take a break. Whet...

Re: Emotion, expression, blah blah blah

If the music itself was carrying that emotion all would perceive it the same Think about your reaction to a specific piece of music when you're happy and when you're sad - you react differently, so why shouldn't others react differently? ....but they don't so to me that tells me it's how each indiv...
