Re: Y12 W12a ( aka W13 ) Adult language

It's a good start, and it's a good story. BUT....I'm going to lay down a couple of laws here. Rule 1....never, ever, EVER use a word you haven't thoroughly researched. "Death was emanate -Won't be long" - sorry mate, but that line just doesn't make sense. Rule 2....and this comes from the Nick Torre...

Re: Y12, W13 - Power Corrupts.

Some good suggestions there - going to have to have a radical rethink about this one. Damn, I really liked that chorus....those two quotes were how the song got started. Playing this through, though, seems to flow nicely as it it is.... Bobbi...good to see you back! How's life treating you these day...

The perfect song....

....hasn't been written yet. So, what does it need? 1 - A great intro...to catch your attention. 2 - A great opening lyric line, to pin back your ears and make you take notice. 3 - A great riff. Whether it comes in from the very start of the song, and helps propel the intro along, or whether it come...

Re: Y12W13 The Crossing

Glad to help, James, it's gone from "great song" status to "almost perfect." There's no such thing as the perfect song*....but don't let that stop you. Or anyone else. I'm already liking this almost as much as "One by One"......and that's the best song EVER to come out of the SSG, in my humble opini...

Y12, W13 - Power Corrupts.

I'm posting this one without even looking back at it once....pure stream-of-consciousness writing. Got the first couple of lines, started typing, and....just went with the flow. It'll probably need a few changes making here and there....but I think I got a couple of nice quotes in there, and a coupl...

Re: Y12W13 - Nobody's As Good As That

Good to see you writing consistently, Renee! This is a pretty good start....just a couple of suggestions. "Churches running scams, Shepherding the lambs." Maybe personalise it a little more (like with the judges, cops, the Pope etc...) - something like "(Arch)Bishops running scams, Fleecing the poor...

Re: Y12W13 The Crossing (The Ballad of Judas)

Dammit, James, I'm going to have to bill you for a new Thesaurus...I seem to have run out of superlatives! Actually I do have one tiny quibble....at first glance, the chorus seemed a little remote, a little disconnected from the rest of the song, but after one listen, I changed my mind. No, it's the...

Y12, W13 - This week's topic/assignment.

Hello, all, and welcome to week 13, or, if you're superstitious, week 12(A.) I'm currently in the middle of watching "Air Force One" when it struck me how good Gary Oldman is at playing the bad guy...and how many films he's played that role in! The late Dennis Hopper was another actor who seemed to ...

Ah, I see - treat this as a rough first draft/demo, then?

Hmm....mbira's a good choice of instrument. Thinking about making your own?

Re: Y12W12 Thank you, Father (A tribute to Nelson Mandela)

Another good one, James. Although I have to say that, like Trev, I was a little surprised by the MP3 - I also expected it to have a more African feel. I'd love to hear more voices on this, especially on the chorus. The clue is in the lyrics: Father gave US a name Father gave US a voice WE will remem...

Re: Y12 W12

Hi, welcome to GN, and especially to the SSG - always nice to see new a new face! Glad to see you tidied this up up from the original post....reads much better now. Instantly recognisable imagery, the only thing I'm not sure of is the Hasselhoff reference...I know he was a big star musically on main...

Re: Y12 W11

Well, it still looks a pretty good start, Trev....if you've still got hopes for this after a couple of years, let's see if we can come up with a few suggestions for you. Here are mine.... 1 - The first two short stanzas and the longer stanza - I presume that's the chorus - are pretty much OK. BUT......

Re: Y12, W11 - Oh Well, Okay

For some reason I missed this one till now....I don't know the original song at all, so I'm going to have to look it up and compare it with your lyrics before I'm able to comment. I'll do that in the AM....'tis almost 1am here, and I'm actually tired...must be getting old!
