Re: I messed up my intonation and action, help!

Floyd Rose floating bridges are easy to stuff up when you don't know what you're doing. Get it into the shop and ask them to show you how to do it without putting it all out.

Re: How much music theory is required?

It varies. It's always good to know some. A simple example - if your music is in four flats and the score says "ad-lib solo", would you know where to start? I play lead guitar for a Big Band - music by Glenn Miller, Rat Pack and lots of jazz (and no Tab). Two of us (at least) have music degrees, one...

Wah pedal - Vox make a really good one, and the Jim Dunlop Crybaby wah is the industry standard

Re: Octave mandolin scale length with electric guitar neck?

There's a mathematical consistency to fret spacing, using the 12th root of 2 - I sat down and worked out that fret spacing when I was at Uni so it's not a difficult calculation. So long as you've got that bit bang on then the sound will be fine - "nearly" won't give you the right intervals

Re: Tears in Heaven - Bluefingers

Tears in Heaven is a song written to commemorate Eric Clapton's son Conor, who died when he fell from the balcony of their 53rd floor apartment. The fact that it made it into a film is to relate the events in the film to a period in time.

See pages 266/7 of Clapton's autobiography.

Re: Is my guitar action good?

I've only ever seen one guitar that needed a truss rod adjustment, and that was a bass with a severely warped neck. You turned it one whole turn? I'm surprised you didn't warp the neck a long way the other way; one quarter of a turn is the maximum recommended by the experts. Exactly what is that rid...

Re: Tuner question.

Looking at the spec on the Korg website, it only seems to work in standard tuning - 7th string tuned to B Drop A tuning means your 7th string is an octave lower than your 5th, so your 7th string fretted at fret 12 should sound the same as your open 5th string. Alternatively, in drop A, your 7th stri...
