Re: "Gigging" at church.

Yeah definitely, I'm learning what the guitar does, when it is not like moving the song, because alot of the songs are piano driven, and bass. What I do is do some nice voicings, to give it a bit of flare, and little lines here and there, and the ocasional solo when the singers have been singing for...

"Gigging" at church.

Hey guys just wanted to give you guys an update on what I've been doing, but this is more for myself, to kinda look back on how I have gotten where I am right now. So I don't remember If I had posted before ( like 8 months ago ?) about how much I hated playing at church. It is not that I hated playi...

AP Physics! Help!

Well for my AP physics class, the whole class has to band together ( we are 15, not that many xD ) and make a playable band of instruments. I am hoping she means Power Trio, more than that would be super hard. We have to make lets say Guitar, drums and bass ( and a microphone ?? O_O) from recycled ma...

Re: Get my head around modes

Yeah I agree, people tend to over think modes, and yes changing a song from Ionian to Phrygian would be weird, I'mnot sure how you would do that but, yeah.

Just wanted to correct the harmonization, just kind of a music nerd xD.

Re: Get my head around modes

G Phrygian wouldn't be like that, the way you harmonized it you were thinking Major scale, G Phrygian would be the same as Ebmaj7 ( or C minor ). So you would simply change the tonality... I think? ( as in transpose it to Ebmaj7 ) G phrygian's chords would be these: Gmin7 Abmaj7 Bb7 Cmin7 Dmin7b5 Eb...

Re: Get my head around modes

F lydian would just be the C major scale played towards F, you could also play F ionian if you wanted to, or F Myxolidian. :O

Re: Get my head around modes

If you were to name the modes like u did in E you would call them: E ionian, F# dorian, G# phrygian and so on and on and on. The things you were naming and the things I was naming were totally different things. E ionian and F# dorian are exactly the same notes ( not the same scales, but you play the...

Re: Get my head around modes

Um no what I wrote is right. The thing you said : C ionian, D dorian, E phrygian so on and on and on is just the same C major scale starting from a different note, and you would play towards that different note. But if u were to say: C ionian, C dorian, C phrygian, so on and on and on is what I said...

Re: Which barre chord is best to use when?

Thats like when I am playing at church ( which I do consistently now) The pianist( he's a bassist but he plays the piano at church cause its better cause he is the director and its easier to direct with the piano cause he can do bass notes and higher notes) likes to change the bass under the chord a...

Re: Why does this work ? and how to write it in harmony

I said bVII not vii...

He didn't use F#-A-C-E ( which would be F#min7b5 the diatonic vii in G ) He used F-A-C which would be a flat VII, that is the reason why I thought he was substituting for a D7/#9...

Re: Why does this work ? and how to write it in harmony

Hmmm... So more questions. I was playing a simple song the other day it was a I VIm IV V ( with some other parts but whatever ) that the school teacher was playing with the chorus ( school chorus) and in one part he switched the V for a bVII for 2 beats of the 4 beat bar then went to V then I. The s...

Re: How would I write this ?

Ahh right it would be Db, cause if it was C# then it would be E# whoops, I counted backwards from F, so I would be playing the same scale but I called it wrong ( although I could just call it F phrygian and be done with it ).

So I could also use the harmonic minor scale.... hmm...

Thank you!

How would I write this ?

I was playing around and I made a cool little vamp that consisted of Fmaj - Bbmaj- Abmaj- Bbmaj ( kinda like a very puerto rican groove ) the stresses are ( beats ) 1(Fmaj) upbeat of 2(Bbmaj) upbeat of 4(Abmaj) and upbeat of 2(Bbmaj). And after 2 runs around the whole thing I do a C7 to do a sort of...
