Re: Speaker

I'd look for a 1x12" or 2x10" cab, 8 ohms. Your head is rated for 4 ohms, with an 8 ohm cab you can add another if you are gigging and need more volume. What's your budget? Either way I'd try to find a used one, on Craigslist or ebay. At lower price points, the Hartke XL 210 is pretty easy to find, ...

Re: Speaker Enclosure

Some cabs are ported, some are not, as you already know. :) According to the XS1010 manual, it can be used either way: "Multi-purpose polycone 10" subwoofer. Designed for sealed, ported and bandpass enclosures" Do you realize this is a subwoofer, commonly used in car stereo systems, rather than the ...

Re: Effects order and Amp noise... Help T.T

Start by putting all the pedals aside, plug the guitar straight into the amp and see if you get the noise. If so, then you can figure out which one is causing it, by trying another guitar into the amp, or the same guitar into another amp. And try a different cable, too. If the guitar and amp are qui...

Re: Guess That Riff VIII

So, it's an Irish band, right? I got that from the Guiness reference! Love that stuff. Yes, that's correct! Uhm, so it's the Pogues? Er, no. Not them. Ireland's other famous band. Oh, okay. Let me think ... darkness, feline ... a black cat? Yes, but think about the "translated" clue ... It's in ano...

Re: Favorite Movie Scenes With Heavy Music Presence

A: The short instrumental pieces done by various instruments throughout the whole movie in "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". The longer piece that the little riff was taken from fit quite well when they showed it as well. Ennio Morricone's soundtracks are great. My favorite is from the movie The Mi...

Re: Do you use a Compressor?

Thanks for the replies. Gnease, that's a very good point about putting autowah/filter effects before. Also the chicken pickin' example is a very good one. The other example I thought of was Roger McGuinn's super-compressed Byrds guitar sound, and I've wondered if the classic jangle was mostly from t...

Do you use a Compressor?

Just curious how many of you are using a compressor pedal, and if you do, how often, and to what degree of effect (e.g., super squishy, subtle limiting, etc.) I have a BBE Opto Stomp that was on my bass board, but I switched to a multi-fx unit (Boss ME50B) with several usable compressor settings, so...

Re: No headphone out or line out - Help please!

This is from the manual for your amp: "PRE OUT - This unbalanced jack provides an output signal from the preamp. It may be used to drive effects units in an effects loop, to drive additional amplifiers in a multi-amp set up, or as a preamp send to a mixing console." Since you can use it to send a si...
