Re: Weekend warrior program - a tale

Rehearsal #2 was a much better day. I spent a fair bit of time during the week getting familiar with the songs we had covered, and trying to work out basic harmonies for the Sheryl Crow song that I am backing on, so I felt a lot better prepared. As well, my mic was turned up a LOT more today, so I c...

Where's the great big "thumbs up" icon? That's just blown away the post-work blahs!

Re: REALLY (probably) stupid question

This is a very GOOD question! I have the same problem: don't get to practice until the later hours or else it would be 6 in the morning. Either way, not neighbour friendly. The feedback buster sounds interesting. Now, if I can find one for my mouth, so I can practice singing as well (where my vocal ...

Re: Weekend warrior program - a tale

Well, we've had our first "official" two-hour rehearsal. We ran through three songs: Take it easy -- The Eagles; If it makes you happy -- Sheryl Crow; and Like Wow, Wipeout -- Hoodoo Gurus. I have to be honest and say that, out of the band, I am probably superfluous. If we lost any other member of t...

Re: Weekend warrior program - a tale

We have a rehearsal on Sunday, so I'll be able to give a better run down on song lists. Our lead guitarist is a singer as well, so I'm not sure how the split is going to go on the singing side. I anticipate I will sing a couple (but not play at the same time... I haven't the coordination as yet) and...

Re: Help with strumming and pick moving out of my hand

Yep, have that problem. I found that part of my problem was sweaty fingers and plastic picks. Not a good combination. I've found a Dunlop Tortex really helped me, because it seems to absorb the oils/sweat. Interesting what people are saying about using a lighter pick, as I was told by a teacher earl...

Weekend warrior program - a tale

Wasn't sure where to post this, so figured here was as good as anywhere (unless admin wants to move me). As mentioned in the New Year's Resolution thread, one of my plans for the new year was to sign up for the local music store's Weekend Warrior program. They get together a bunch of people who have...

Re: New Years Guitar Goals?

Weekend warrior program: Ha! Got an email on Friday that I was in, and that it started on Sunday. THIS Sunday! EEEEK. They did say you could do it even if you only know three chords... let's see if that's true! This could be one of the scariest things I've done so far (give me diving with sharks or...

Re: New Years Guitar Goals?

Clean out "chaos" room and return it to a space where I want to be (at the moment it is a pile of unfinished paperwork and "stuff" that was hidden away while the guests were over for Christmas). Pick up the guitar every day. Do the homework my guitar teacher gives me. FIND TIME! Don't feel guilty a...

Re: The Hear Here Forum Section - Please Read

Perhaps part of it is people feeling "in between" -- not wanting to seem like they are showing off in the Beginner's thread (although I don't know what is the definition of a beginner... I still feel like one no matter how much I improve), and not feeling they are good enough to post something compl...

Re: Dragging knuckles

Thanks for that, Hyperborea. I'm trying to keep me eyes on my right hand when playing... but they so want to stray over to the security of the left hand  I will post something in the beginners' videos soon, which might help people see if there is anything obviously wrong happening with my strum...

Re: Dragging knuckles

Just as an update, I have been practicing more regularly, and seem to be doing it less.

In part, to do with keeping the pic a little "longer", and putting a little more pressure on it with my thumb, which seems to keep it straighter so I'm leading more with it and not with my knuckle.

Cheers!

Re: Strumming With a Pick

I'm trying to learn to strum properly. My natural inclination was fingerpicking, but I want to be able to sing and play, so need to learn to play with a pic. My teacher gets me to look at my *right* hand when I play, because even though I instinctively look at my left, I don't really need to with si...
