Intermediate amp choices

Hello. I normally try not to do this kind of post, but I'm throwing myself at the mercy of the forum. I have had a little cheap, cheap, cheap amp that I've been using with a Strat. It has been fine, but I've been thinking I'd like something a little... better. (Not that I deserve it, playing-wise, b...

Re: Favourite songs for jam sessions?

Well, it's almost that time. Work's been stoopidly busy and I'm not even remotely prepared for this Sunday's Jam session. However, they sent out a notice today with a song to learn for the day (Tom Petty "I won't back down"), so I'm going to give that a bash and see what happens on the day....

Re: Is Anybody Gassin' for something?

I cannot justify the purchase of new guitar gear (but when has that stopped me!). I recently had to choose between an amp for the acoustic and the electric, and bought a nice one for the acoustic (and I'm looking forward to the time to get to know it muuuuuch better). However, I'm still hangin' for ...

Re: Favourite songs for jam sessions?

Fantastic! The jam session was the scariest part for me, so get that out of the way, and then it'll be smooth(er) sailing.

I have to admit, I'm nervous (again) already, too.

Re: How to start songwriting?

I cannot offer advice, but can say that I think you've explained very well how I feel most of the time. I keep a little note book and jot down lines (only lines, not whole songs) if they come to me, and I've been known to grab my phone and record a little bit of a song that pops in my head while I'm...

And thank you everyone for the suggestions. I will play around with some of them and see if I can pull something together. :D

Re: Favourite songs for jam sessions?

Bkangel, are you talking about Billy Hyde? You did it last time? I am too chicken lol GOOD LUCK... Don't be chicken! If you want to do it, DO IT! It is challenging, no doubt, but it is great fun, and everyone is really supportive. (Trust me, I struggle to strum through songs, and suffer performance...

Favourite songs for jam sessions?

Hello! A few of you might remember that earlier this year I did a little project involving the Weekend Warrior program at a local guitar store. Well, there's another program starting in three months, and I'm keen to give it another crack! This time, now I know the process a little better, I ...

Re: 7-Year Old Son Starting Lessons Today!!

I'll be very interested to see how this progresses! I have a niece (only one) who I would like to introduce to music (maybe by paying for her to have lessons when she is a little older... she's only 18 months old). But, and sorry for hijacking, but how young is too young? Is it worth buying her a li...

Re: Happy Birthday(s), Notes and bkangel!

And happy birthday (belatedly) to you, Notes! Thank you all for the nice thoughts. I spent my birthday at work, and had a very quiet one. BUT I spent the day before my birthday doing an advanced motorcycling course: me, 30 blokes, hot bikes and a race track. Was a VERY good way to preface a birthday...

Re: Year 9 Week 37 - I never get to work before ten

I really enjoyed this! (Perhaps because I have lived it... I doubt many of us haven't experienced the frustration of commuting.) I don't know enough to be able to say if the structure is spot on or not, but it sounded good in my mind's... ear. And the humour was good with a sting in the tail for us ...

Re: What song are you learning right now?

I'm just starting to pick through Take Five. My guitar teacher wants me to sharpen up my reading skills, and to work with something that isn't 3/4 or 4/4. (Take Five is 5/4.)

BKA has definitely gotta work to find her groove.

Re: SSG Year 9 Week 33

Thanks for the replies. It was rather scary hitting the submit button, I have to say. Even scarier is thinking about the music. I confess I'm a little stumped, so am tossing up between just trying to record something acapella  and seeing what comes from that, or else working out which of the li...
