Re: My first video - Sundown

It dawned on one day when I was contemplating if I should continue having singing lessons that the singers I LOVE to listen to are more about the presentation of the song than the strength of their voice necessarily. Tom Waits, Ed Keupper, Elliot Smith, none could be said to have "ideal" voices... a...

Re: Fretboard: Aloe Vera, Wynns, Southern Comfort or Beez Wax?

As a complete aside: my grandmother cured our earaches with warm castor oil in the ear.

It felt so gross I think I forcibly supressed any ear aches from that point on

As for guitars, I shall read all this more closely, as I am a bit slack with polishing my guitars.

Re: Beginner's videos

I will voice my congratulations also, not only did the 'old' Mac perform it's duty well, but both videos were very listenable...) I ended up using a mic through the video camera as the camera's mic picked up too much extaneous noise and made things sound really tinny, so hopefully the guitar sounds...

Re: Beginner's videos

Well done Lisa. I really liked the classical guitaring. I've been thinking of buying an acoustic (never played one) and after seeing the wide neck on yours, it's one that I'm definitely going to consider. I've been looking for a guitar with a wider neck. KR2 I suffer from *stoopid little hands* syn...

Re: Beginner's videos

Thank you for that Nuno. I didn't even realise I had been doing that with the nylon. I think it might be a bad habit that's snuck in from muting the E string on the steel string when strumming. I will definitely keep an eye on that! Now I drawn that line in the sand, I have somewhere to move on from...

Re: Beginner's videos

Okay. I said I would do this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CG64gty6JU It is just a snippet of "Little Conversations" by Concrete Blonde, and I'm really only posting this so I can figure it all out. Wasn't sure how much time I could have on my poor old antiquated Mac, how high a quality ...

Re: Beginner's videos

Two months! I'm very impressed!

You appear to have a very relaxed strumming arm, something I struggle with.

Kudos to you!

Re: What's wrong (with me)? Losing interest?

That's good, thanks! I have some basic chords down, and a basic strum pattern. And I've learnt a little classical, which I seem to be more comfortable with. Strum patterns, though, do my head in  I will go back to the basics though and get them right. I tend to be too scatty, trying to do too m...

Re: What's wrong (with me)? Losing interest?

Thanks for that Vic. I've just posted over in the Beginners Video thread my intentions to get playing (and videoing).

Sell my guitars? Not going to happen. I'm stubborn, and they make me happy, even if it's just their beauty and potential some times.

Re: Beginner's videos

*deep breath* My name is Lisa, and I am stuck. I have been learning guitar for a while, but have really not progressed in a long while. I was looking for motivation and stumbled over this post. I've read it through from the beginning, and it is fantastic to see the progress that has been made! I had...

Re: What's wrong (with me)? Losing interest?

Thanks for the encouragement. Didn't mean to hijack the post

After I wrote, earlier, I came across the Beginner's Videos post, which I've just started going through. This is fantastic! [And quite possibly what I need to get motivated again! ]

Re: What's wrong (with me)? Losing interest?

I've been struggling, so reading your post has made me feel a little bit better. I had to give up my lessons at the beginning of the year (I prefer to think of it as just a sabbatical until work improves), and I don't have any friends that play, so I've never jammed with anyone (and I have to be hon...

Craving Inspiration

Never let it be said I do things in a hurry. Signed up at least six months ago, but finally writing an introduction! I've been playing (for want of a better word) for a couple of years, and what I lack in natural talent I am hoping I will make up for in doggedness. I have a nice nylon string, a stee...
