Dear Noteboat:

Now that you mention bVII, where does it come from? is it a borrowed chord added to the major scale? . I read in some books that this chord substitutes VII, which is seldom used.

There is a good book published by Mel Bay regarding Drop Two. As Noteboat says it is a particular method to learn inversions.It is not something new or esotheric.
