Re: I think my neck is twisted...

Get a yardstick, or a similar straight edge, and see if you can identify what's bent.

When you say twisted, do you mean like a corkscrew (only more subtle) or bent sideways, or bent towards (or away from) the strings?

each is a different issue, and a different solution.

Re: Good guitar for a young child?

Many of my young students show up with First Act guitars. They range in quality from fairly decent to completely unplayable; most are difficult to play, and hard to keep in tune. So it's a similar variability that plagues many of the less expensive brands - bad quality control in addition to mass p...

Re: Good guitar for a young child?

Generally the Rondo (SX) guitars are fairly well thought of. Many of the "kids" guitars I have seen feel like they are built as toys, rather than as serious instruments, though. Good luck on your search. Oh, I just remembered that I saw some short scale guitars at Toys-r-us. I think they were First ...

There's no such thing as a silly question (some of the answers, however... )

Seriously, never feel foolish about honestly asking a question, especially here.

Re: I need help for a new amp

The VT-30 seems to be a really versatile little beastie. And it has a tube pre-amp in it as well as all the modelling. Anyway, you like the Led Zeppelin guitar sound? Jimmy Page used VOX amps (specifically the AC-30) in the studio. Your amp has models of 3 different versions of that amp built-in. Pa...

Re: Help! my tube head won't turn on

If you have no power lights and if wiggling the power cord does anything, then the problem is likely with the power cord / power connector, or associated wiring inside the amp.

It should be a relatively easy fix, if that's what it is.

Re: How many people like worn vintage guitars?

If the wear comes with accompanying stories, then I might pay a bit of a premium for a vintage instrument. If it sounds and plays great. But if it's a new instrument that looks vintage, then I'd probably pass it by. Unless it sounds and plays great. In my opinion, mojo has to be earned, not installe...

Re: Learning Guitar With Rock Band 3

Apparently it's a real (though heavily modified) guitar that you can plug into the game or into a normal amp. http://www.rockband.com/blog/fender-squier-pictures Interesting. Still waiting to see how Rocksmith does. It uses any guitar that you have as a controller for the game. If it works well, the...

Re: Maybe a dumb question (6L6GC vs 5881WXT)

I'm not sure about the damage story. Those should be compatible tubes. Perhaps if the bias isn't tweaked (or at least checked) when changing tube brands there might be a shortening of tube life. Regardless, take a look at this tube comparison test, done a few years ago. The Electro Harmonix tube is ...

Re: Problem with electronics on my Schecter

I'd guess your switch is dirty, wearing out or otherwise damaged.

Something likethis might do the job.

Unless... Is there any crackling/buzzing while you adjust the volume control(s) ?
If so, one of them might need some attention.

Re: strings for cedar parlor

For reference, this is what's on it from the factory. (Phosphor-bronze 12-53, "light") In the FAQ, they say there is no problem going up or down 1 gauge from there. Maybe try a fresh set of the same as what's on it, and see what you think, then try the ones you already use (assuming the gauge is app...

I just downloaded this GP tab (opened it with Tux Guitar) and then listened to it alongside a youtube video of the song, and it sounds right.
