Re: New toy, and question about strings

Forgot to mention the minor annoyance I discovered after the re-stringing: the individual string volume controls on the back of the Washburn are labeled wrong -- the one marked "G" is actually for the "E", "D" is actually "A", etc. Took me an embarrassingly long time to figure that out... Lev...

Re: New toy, and question about strings

OK, here's the scoop. Strings look and feel awesome -- the black strings on the sunburst body with the black hardware is a cool look, and feel smooth as glass. I like the sound: warm, and even with the bass rolled all the way off and treble all the way up it's not overly crunchy. Side-note: Lee real...

Re: New toy, and question about strings

OK. so UPS delivered a set of D'Addario ETB92 nylon tapewound (medium gauge: .050-.105) strings today (along with a Dean Performer Koa Acoustic-Electric guitar for Lee (don't tell her: it's a Valentine's Day gift)). I'm going to take the Washburn and the strings up to our music store/school tomorrow...

Re: I Need some advice!

Bonjour! To echo what the others have said, the Yamaha bass is a good entry-level choice. I have no experience with the Ampeg BA-108, but it's got good reviews. My first bass was the Yamaha RBX-260 - same body style as the 270, but with a single P-style pickup. I have since passed that one on to a f...

Re: New toy, and question about strings

Thanks for the advice, David and Dan, and for the compliment, Nuno. No worries about the loss of the slap/pop thing -- you've heard me play, David... While I have a deep appreciation for the art of slap/pop, I lack the ability to do it. :? I talked to my teacher about it today, and he's got a set of...

New toy, and question about strings

So for Christmas, I got a new toy: http://budar-danoff.org/images/AB40VSK.jpg , a Washburn AB40 VSK 4-string, acoustic-electric, slim-body bass. How slim? My wife's Yamaha CPX15S 6-string is deeper. It sounds good, and is easier to play than the Michael Kelly Dragonfly acoustic-electric, which makes...

Re: New Bass Day

Following up...

I ordered one of them for a belated birthday present and picked it up last week. Really enjoying it... getting used to the (substantially) heavier weight as compared to my Yamaha RBX-270 (single P pickup, alder wood body), but definitely digging the tone.

Re: Is there a cheap way to play bass through your computer?

I use the AmpliTube iRig with my iPod/iPad.

It allows you to load songs into it and then change the tempo as well as loop parts to work on particular sections of the tune.

Re: New Bass Day

I've been eyeing that very bass since the store where the wife and I take lessons became a Fender dealer.

I took it for a "test drive" for one of my lessons and really liked it.

BTW, nice avatar.

Re: Autumn Leaves and ii-V-I

Just found this thread... a bit late to the dance, but I'm here now. My bass teacher gave me Autumn Leaves a few months ago, and the result has been a side trip into the land of music theory, minor scales, modes and how they relate to chords in a particular scale, etc. We're finally at the point whe...

Re: Where Did The Guitar Tabs Go?

I'm not sure that's accurate. Choosing to allow video lessons to sell more product might be a sound business decision if all the eggs were in one basket, but they aren't. Because the various rights are divided up between different groups and agencies, no one has the authority or the incentive to ma...
