RIP Sara T'Rula....aka Scrybe.

Just heard the sad news that my friend Sara T'Rula...aka Scrybe, in these forums, has passed away. I had the pleasure of meeting and jamming with her a couple of times, along with Dan and Laura Lasley. Such a talented young lady, and with a great sense of humour....and a charming hostess and a fine ...

Re: SSG Year 14 Week 8

looked back on what I'd written the next day.. thought no. Vic, you are writing rubbish- needs a total rewrite, could be a huge job. Then wednesday night, come up with something conpletely different..doesn't fit the subject at all, so I might just post it in the other songwriting group. Looks like i...

Well, it took over an hour to type that out on my phone - and there's a line at the bottom with a typo I can NOT delete!

Re: SSG Year 14 Week 3

just a little trivia ror you David, but TRex have been mentioned in no less than four UK top 20 hits...the above mentioned All The Young Dudes; Kool ant the Kaftan by BARobertson ("Better go out and buy T. Rex, man!") You Better You Bet by the Who..."Drunk myself blind to the sound of old T.Rex" and...

Re: Good morning world

Hey Nuno, good to see you! Last 2-3 years have been pretty tough....I can see a light at the end of the tunnel, though. All I need now is a couple of new guitars, a keyboard, a bass, a couple of amps, a drum machine and I'm ready to roll. Oh and either a job - nobody seems to want to employ a 58-yea...

Re: hi all!!

Welcome back, Al, and hope you gel with the new band. Personally, I never had much trouble switching between electric and acoustic - not that I was ever that good, but I always had equal practice time on each. Plus, I always used the same gauge strings on electric and acoustics - 9's. Seemed to help...

Re: Y13 W25 Harbingers Of Doom

V1 and V2 seem to be conveying the same idea, but V2 does it better, so consider starting with V2 then have a verse about the singer's effort to get home; since V2 mentions he is so far from home. Suggestion noted and acted upon...originally, I had them that way round...post edited and they're back...

Re: Year 13 Week 25 - Land of Heartbreak

Just picking up on James' last point, had me wondering for a second or two - but then I thought, "well the singer might be staring at a photograph and addressing his remarks to the person he's missing..." Good to see you're still writing and playing, Neil - and in your own distinctive style, doing w...

Re: 13/25 Deception

What you've got so far looks OK to me, John. First verse is strong and the chorus follows well... Second verse, if the theme is politics, maybe the scheming and treachery could be done with words - sharp tongue, cutting like steel, that sort of imagery perhaps? Third verse, I don't quite get the lio...

Re: Y13W25 How Much of Myself Must I Give?

Seems to me you've given an awful lot of yourself to the SSG, James... Reading through the lyrics, I was wondering what you were going to come up with musically - I was thinking, solo acoustic guitar and a tambourine. Might be a nice idea to throw a tambourine in at the first chorus, one beat to the...

Y13 W25 Harbingers Of Doom

Interesting assignment. I've written LOTS of 3-chord songs before, but always in a I-IV-V pattern, mostly blues songs - so in the interest of trying something different, I decided to try a different pattern. So - think of a template. The only three-chord songs I could think of with a different patte...
