Re: thanks

thanks for the help. If i undestand the issue of keys correctly, then it's like playing a scale, only with chords instead of single notes, right? It really depends. There are two ways of looking at keys, and some interchange one idea for the other. In the broadest possible terms, a KEY is w...

Re: New at Guitar

You certainly have come a long ways, and welcome. If I see any questions that you post along the way, I'll do my best to help. I tend to gravitate more towards the theory side of things and helping others with their questions. It's what I love to do.

Re: Other strings ring when I pluck a different string

They are called sympathetic vibrations. The best way to control this is, play everything slowly so that you can consciously control everything. Let's say you play a part so slowly that before the other string gets away, you can gently move and touch that string with the ball of the inside of the pic...

Re: C to Cm

Try this one, its a full Cm triad x x x 5 4 3 or this one x 3 x 3 4 x or x x 5 5 4 3 Finally... this isn't a barre chord, but it is a pretty full sounding Cm x 3 5 5 4 x X are strings that you can feel free to not hit or even mute. Good luck, and hope you keep enjoying all that you play! Best, Sean

Re: Choose my new amp!

Well I voted BlackStar because I have 2 of them. And if you can get one with the Voicing features like the 40 or 60 you'll never look back. I played one in front of 3000 people and got comments all night long, and this was an outdoor gig. For almost all genres except the most extreme metal, this amp...

Re: Beginner guitarist - What do I learn now HELP ????????

Please help, I have just started learning to play an accoustic guitar and am very passionate about learning to play. I have a talented friend who is very good on a guitar. I have learned the chords G, D & C, and although learning the chords is simple enough, im having difficulty positioning my fing...

Best,

Re: single string picking

Hi, When I'm playing single strings, you can hear when I lift off and press down. I tried playing softer, but in order for me to play fast, I have to press down hard. So for example, when I'm playing Sweet Child Of Mine, I can hear when I lift off of the string and press on the next. This is especi...

Re: first electric

Regarding "cheaper"... What's more important to you, getting the guitar that fits you or the money you saved buying the guitar that didn't? If money is THAT MUCH of an issue, it's worth saving the few dollars more and getting something that really fits. It might take longer, and while you might have...

Re: Guitar size questions

Hey thanks. I'm not a big fan of the backpacker or the Washburn, I don't like the feel. I think I'm going to end up going with a Luna unless I can find something around the price that's better when it comes time to buy. Rondo used to carry a travel guitar, but I can't seem to find it. The one thing...

Re: Beginner guitarist - What do I learn now HELP ????????

Of course, I agree with you that they (2 finger chords) are complete chords, even a strummed open stringed guitar is a E A D G B E - could be called an E m7 add 13 (where EGB is the Emin, D is the b7 and A is the 13) but in terms of function and intent when I teach them, they are step-up chords, to ...

Re: Guitar size questions

Im not looking for a big investment, this guitar will be a guitar to take on vacation and if it doesnt fit on the way back, leave it. But tgere is a difference in price when talking travel vs. 3/4 and 1/2 so thats why the question, not quality, this guitar will be sold after I get back from vacatio...

Re: Beginner guitarist - What do I learn now HELP ????????

Well no, at the risk of backtracking myself, I would NOT argue against learning partials, because I teach using that philosophy and I think its a solid one. Learn to get strength and stability and clarity in 2 finger chords, learn your songs, but then when it becomes easy, start adding your third fi...

Re: Guitar size questions

I don't know of any good travel guitars in that price range, but if you can get a traveller at that range Id grab it, its about as good as you are going to get. Personally I have 2 travel guitar's...a Breedlove Passport, and a G# from Norway. Both are worth way more. If I were advising you, I'd sugg...

Re: Selling my Oscar Schmidt OE-30 .... Right price?

OK, not sure if anyone is familiar with these. They started out on Musicians Friend for arounf $239 and gradually got cheaper ALA Squire 51 untill they were giving them away. Well, not quite but I think they may have Stupid Dealed for $99. I paid $129 for mine. I had to do some work on the nut to g...
