Re: Trying to get Reggie’s Wooten tome

Well, you can start by having the same gear, but that won't make you sound like him.

Only long hours in the practise room will help

Re: Van halen - eruption

Pick-hand tapping, using the whammy bar to get to an exact pitch (rather than just waggling it), legato playing, controlling your sound on your amp - the list is endless, which is why it made such a good warmup exercise back in the day for students as well as for EVH himself.

Re: How can i do better?

Hi, This is my first post here. Hope this is the right place. I came here looking for some advice. I've been playing the guitar for a few years now, on and off. I learned how to read tabs (can't read sheet music) and I can learn most songs I want to that way. I'd like to improve, however, but I'm n...

Re: Ukulele chord-symbols - someone have some?

There was a Spam link in the original post, which I've edited out, but the question is a valid one so I didn't just disapprove the whole thing.

I teach ukulele as well as guitar, so I would suggest starting at your App Store - I got a free Ukulele chord dictionary from mine (Windows)

There's nothing wrong with the nut.

Re: Old Kay Guitar - Restore or Improve?

Restore - it might cost you more but there's a potential good sale value for it.

"Improved" is a subjective term. Serious collectors (those with money) might call it "butchered"

Re: Fretboard navigation & chords

But is pentatonic scales a good focus for navigation? No - unless you call out the note names as you play them, pentatonic scales is a focus for playing pentatonic scales, which you will then use to improvise a solo. Scales on the guitar - pentatonic, major, harmonic or melodic minor, whole-tone, m...

Re: Fretboard navigation & chords

Beats - Google it. There are shedloads. Avoid those you have to pay for

Navigation - play songs at full speed. It doesn't have to be anything difficult; lots of songs just cycle around four chords

Re: Problem with sound of power chords

Your sound could be a lot worse, but make sure your fingers are forward in the fret space - close to but not touching the fret wire

Re: How much music theory is required?

There was a link in alanguitar's post, and normally if there's a link to a third-party site in a first post we dis it as spam. However, the rest of the post made a contribution to the debate so I let it live. The link didn't actually work, though, so I edited it out alanguitar - if you own the site ...

Re: Another beginner question

This was originally an off-topic post in a thread about modes. I've split it out, and removed the link to an external site as the rest of the post contains a relevant question. Over to you; anyone with experience of this guitar?

Re: Truss Rod Adjustment having a Negative Impact on Tone

The truss rod exists to stop the tension in the strings warping your neck. It won't affect your tone. Either 1) your ride height is wrong - raise the bridge a touch, or 2) your truss rod needs adjusting to straighten the neck. Option 1 is more likely as in 44 years ofplaying guitar I have only once ...
