Re: Should a steel- string guitar hurt my fingers after a ye
Try playing really, really quietly. I know that sounds strange - it's your PICKING hand that controls the volume - but when I tried playing quietly for a while (in a hotel room while my wife was asleep) I discovered I was putting much less pressure on the left-hand fingers. After that it was pretty...

Re: Classic Jimmy Page sound. Help plz.
zeppelin68 check out the Agile guitars over at Rondo Music. The lower cost models are in your ballpark price-wise and are very well respected as a lower-cost alternative to the big name brands. It seems that Agile specializes in Les-Paul style guitars, but they also have Telecaster style models as w...

Re: Where Did The Guitar Tabs Go?
Guitar Noise isn't really a guitar tab site. I think a lot of visitors are here for what we have other than tab. But I guess we'll see. Thanks for the comments. I agree, GN is NOT about the tabs, but the teaching that goes along with them. Tabs by themselves are not helpful, but in the same token, ...

Re: Which Classical Guitar Is Best For A Beginner?
Please seriously consider playing all four. With a classical guitar, tone makes a bigger difference and is easier to hear than with an electric. (You can't make up for shortcomings using an amp and pedals.) I started with a "cheapie" and then when I got old enough to save money for a good guitar, I ...

Re: When to change acoustic strings
I wait until they sound like crap. I wish someone had told me this earlier - I should be changing them every time I pick up the guitar if this is the case... Took the words right out of my mouth. I have little to add--especially after NoteBoat weighed in on the subject. :) I can tell from wh...

Re: Moving from acoustic to electric, what do I need to know
When it comes to amps, though, I'm completely clueless. What does "40 watt 1x12 Tube Amp" mean in practical terms? What are the benefits of getting a head and a cabinet versus a combo amp? How big an amp should I get if I'm looking to play bars and small venues? The 1x12 means there is one 12-inch ...

Re: No calluses - falling off from work
Another thing that occurred to me (although I do not know if this would be a good idea or not) is to take a tip from the folks who practice Karate. They push their hands into sand and whatnot to strengthen their skin and cause callouses. Perhaps the use of a little alcohol (as suggested) and then po...

Re: Want opinions on some tube amps
I haven't tried it, but have always heard that amp modelers and tube amps aren't a good mix. I use my digitech toy through a plain, boring, practice amp, with the EQ set flat and no gain. It seems like these modelers are emulating as best they can the sounds of a tube amp already. Putting that thro...

Re: Best professional guitarists
I couldn't resist bumping this thread. Andres Segovia makes perfect sense to me. You don't have to like classical guitar to realize how much of a master he was. I suspect that "best" in most minds is strongly tied in to the music we like (as has been stated before). If limited in that way, Jimi Hend...
