Re: amp treble knob "pop"

Seems like the problem is probably a dirty or bad potentiometer. You can buy an electronics contact cleaner and try to clean it. However, sometimes that doesn't work and it needs a new potentiometer, it usually isn't an expensive part. If you've never worked with electronics before then I'd just tak...

Re: fade to black

It's basically just distortion with a little bit of chorus and reverb. As far as E.Q goes, it's probably a scooped sound (full treble and bass, mid turned to 0). As far as tone goes, you'd probably be best using a bridge humbucker pickup on your guitar. Kirk and James use EMG active pickups and Mesa...

Re: Amp crackling and popping

Do you always use the same patch cord to hook up the guitar to the amp? If you have another cord try using it and seeing if the problem is the cord and not the amp. If you have another guitar (or a buddy who's got another guitar), try seeing if that noise occurs with it. How long has this noise been...

Re: Classical Guitar Posture

Thanks for the replies. I just figured out a big reason I was having problems: the chair I was using was too tall (according to this article: http://www.guitarnoise.com/lessons/posture :D ). However all the comments got me thinking: one of the main reasons I've been re-thinking my posture is to impr...

Classical Guitar Posture

Hey everyone, I recently received Jamie Andreas' Correct Practice for Guitar book, and in the book it says how important it is to sit properly with the guitar. One of my goals as a player is to be able to improve my technique to increase my speed so I decided go back and try to sit in the proper cla...

Re: So much for singing lessions

That's funny, the exact same thing happened to me! I was taking guitar lessons from a gentlemen who taught from his house. One day I show up and the door is locked and no one is home, a couple weeks later I get a call and he tells me he moved and forgot to tell me, I ended up continuing lessons for ...

Re: How to play Blurry (right forum?)?

I use powertabs, first you have to download the powertab editor: http://www.power-tab.net/ and then you download individual tab files from a website like this: http://www.tablibrary.com they have puddle of mudd's "Blurry". If you're looking for videos on how to play it, look on Youtube: http://www.y...

Re: Upgrading the office "studio"? Am I missing anything?

You should be able to record vocals and guitar at the same time and on separate tracks. The only problem you might have is with latency (a small delay between tracks that is small but annoying), depending on what your computer and sound card are like. I've used Audacity and I like it (perticularly b...

Re: I got asked to join a band!

If I was in your situation and asked to join a band that plays a style that I'm not really a fan of, I think I would tell them that while I don't play or sing in that perticular style, I'd at least be willing to sit in on a few practice sessions to see whether or not it's for me. I've been playing f...

Re: Circle Of 5ths Question and Small Rant

OK, so key of D means that I can play a D Maj Pent, D Maj, D min, D min pent, B min and B min pent scales? Not exactly. It's really the chords that are important. If you see a chord progression like this: G major - A major - D major Then the D major or D major pentatonic scale would probably sound ...

Re: Circle Of 5ths Question and Small Rant

Yup, it works. Bm pentatonic contains the same notes as the D major pentatonic scale. The song is in a D blues key and a big part of blues music is combining major and minor tonalities, the great blues players typically use the minor pentatonic scale along with major pentatonic notes. You can go bac...

Re: structuring a solo

Now I'm not an expert soloist by any means, but I would imagine a good way to get better would be to study solos that you like. There's no one way to structure a guitar solo: some are completely based off of a melody, others might harmonize a chord progression and others might be based off of licks ...

Re: Vai, Zappa, and others

For The Love Of God, Bad Horsie and Tender Surrender are really great Vai songs. Sisters is a good composition as well. Joe Satriani is another guy who has a similar style to Vai, although I would say his music has a harder rock feel. Flying in a Blue Dream is my favorite song of his. I've never rea...

Re: Distortion Pedals

I have a nice collection of distortion pedals: DS-1, a Behringer Tube screamer, Boss Metal Zone along with a few clone pedals I built myself (a Marshall guvnor clone along with a TS-808 tube screamer clone and a EH Big Muff Clone). You'd think I'd happy with my distorted tone but i still have alot o...
