bending

Is there any problem with bending the string down instead of up? Is that a bad habit to get into?

I'm developing an annoying habit, can you help

Two actually .. Since I've only been playing for about 3 weeks I hope I can break these. As I have gotten more dexterity and started picking and fretting different strings I seem to be getting lazy and muting any string I'm not using at that moment but problably should be using. I know the proper ha...

Re: Creating my own riff library

On the other hand I heard that metal fans want to hear the same solo in concert that they do on the record. I can't speak for all metalheads, but i'm about as metal as they come as far as music preference and yes, the solos have a lot more impact for me if they are consistent for the most part. Iro...

chord exercises

Is this piece of advice an absolute? "The important thing is to make sure the basic guitar chords sound cleanly struck every time and ring out nicely. Keep at it - it just takes practise. Follow this little exercise while watching TV or paint dry." Or is it ok (especially when doing changes) to have...

Re: Older Beginners?

Nice to see another fellow metal head on the forums. :) For me Fret>jam has been an invaluable source. It has great section for metal guitar techniques, it even has dedicated sections for death metal and thrash. it has a bunch of tabs to practice and most importantly it has sound examples for all l...

finger callluses (calli?)

I was wondering about developing toughened finger tips. Will they become insenstive or numb permanently or does that feeling (lack of) go away in time. There is no real pain anymore, after about 1 week but my fingertips to feel completely numb pretty much all the time. I practiced about 30 mins to 1...

Re: Older Beginners?

I'm pretty shocked at the responses here, I turn 40 in a while and decided tonight that I was going to try and learn guitar. If for no other reason than I always wanted to as a teenager but never did, I want no regrets in my life.

Maybe it is a 40's thing, anyway good to see I'm in good company.
