Re: Playing in Different Positions

I play mostly in standing position, I usually only sit down if I'm learning a new song and I have to look at the tabs/notes. Like Wes in that picture just last night I had my SG in pretty much the same position, lately I've been trying to force myself out of this "bad habit", but if Wes does it too,...

Re: Peavy ReValver Anyone?

Been playing with both Guitar Rig and Revalver a bit more and I have to say that Guitar Rig is the one for me. The user interface in Revalver is just hopeless compared to GR. In GR there's tape decks for easy access for recording, also the tuner can be used by a click of button, in Revalver you have...

Re: Couple of questions about tabs in Guitar Pro

I don't get what the double inclining slashes are supposed to mean (I think pull up/down, but not sure). That's tremolo picking. Again with a similar (but different) slash, which I believe means slide to the next fret. I'm pretty sure, also, that the curves between the two frets means to basically ...

Re: Peavy ReValver Anyone?

Got the new M-AUDIO Fast Track Pro USB audio interface today and I immediately started to play with it. I've connected my guitar to the instrument input on the audio interface and then I use either ReValver or Guitar Rig for adding effects etc. then I take the sound from the audio interface's TRS ou...

Re: Peavy ReValver Anyone?

I really like it, when it comes to the sound it's the best amp modelling software out there. The user interface could be better and this is something that the Guitar Rig does a bit better. I've just ordered a proper audio interface to do some more experimenting with both of them, so I'll probably po...

Re: New Pickups - Are P90s right for me ?

I have P90s on my Les Paul Custom, they give a nice smooth and warm sound, but on the treble position I can get some nice crunchy sound too and it works very well even for death metal! The only bad thing about them is that they are _very_ sensitive for picking up CRT monitors and such, but other tha...

Re: Tuning guitar to Drop C

On my guitars with standard C tuning I use 11 gauge strings, but next I'll try 12. 10 gauge for drop C is definitely too small.

Re: My new Strat Deluxe - PICTURES ADDED

Not really, I have a 100 inch "screen" (I could make it even bigger but I'd need a much bigger room too!).

Re: How low is too low?

The lowest tuning I use on my guitars is C standard, I mostly use standard E tuning.

In general you don't need to tune down to sound heavy. Actually, if you have to tune down to sound heavy, you're doing something wrong. :)

Re: What Things Are You Working On Now, And Why?

Interesting thread!

I'm working on speed too and I use the song Aces High by Iron Maiden to do that. I can't quite yet play it cleanly in full speed, but I've been practicing it with Guitar Pro for about a week now and I've made huge progress.

The first full song that I managed to learn and play so that someone else besides me could recognize it is Paranoid by Black Sabbath, can't play the solo yet though... :)

Re: Older Beginners?

Nice to see another fellow metal head on the forums. :) For me Fret>jam has been an invaluable source. It has great section for metal guitar techniques, it even has dedicated sections for death metal and thrash. it has a bunch of tabs to practice and most importantly it has sound examples for all li...
