Acoustic Blues?

I decided to put the electric guitar down for awhile since everything I played was starting to sound the same. I've picked up my acoustic again and have been searching for a good acoustic blues tune I can learn (or a good acoustic blues artist I can research). I've only been playing for 18 months or...

Playing partial chords?

Just wondering what everyone does when it comes to fingering partial chords. Is it common to finger the entire chord and only play the appropriate strings, or do most people only finger the specific strings being played. For example, the song I'm working on calls for a partial D major chord (- - 12 ...

Re: Hal Leonard Vs. Alfred's

I can't speak to the Alfred's book, but I used the Hal Leonard Guitar Method when I stared and found it extremely helpful in terms of building a nice foundation of the basics to work from. I purchased the complete 3 book serious, but could have gotten away with just the first 2 books to be quite hon...

Re: Seeking feedback on writing your own song.

Thanks for the advice Alan, looking forward to trying out your suggestions. Would love to post what I've got worked out so far, although, I'm not sure I can download the format I have it saved in on my computer to this site. One of these days I'm going to get motivated and sign onto one of the share...

Seeking feedback on writing your own song.

I've been playing for just a little over a year and thought I would start using what I have been practicing to write my own little melody/song. Just something simple and for my own entertainment purposes only. To get there, I did the following and I'm just looking for feedback on ways to improve for...

Re: What do you do with solos???

Thanks David, that will work out perfectly, I'm a huge Gilmore fan and my wife purchased me a great collection of Pink Floyd tabs this past Christmas. I'll check out the song solos you suggested.

Regards,
Emad

Re: how long, what music, what guitar...

Great thread. I'm 41, have been playing for a little over a year, and I am a guitar hero convert. My 12 year old nephew introduced me to the game so I had to go out and buy it myself. After many a late night I decided the time had come for me to put the game down and do something I always wanted to ...

What do you do with solos???

I've been playing for a little over a year now and, overall, I'm pleased with my progress. One area that I struggle with, however, is playing the solos on the songs I'm learning. For the most part, I'm comfortable with learning/playing the intro, chorus, verse sections, etc. on most of the advanced ...

...for reintroducing me to my acoustic. It hasn't gotten much playing time since I purchased an electric a few months back but I took it out yesterday again and found the "Wish You Were Here" lessons on this site and haven't been able to put it down since. I had forgotten how much I liked it (the so...

What a difference...

...a new set of strings makes. Yes, I know I'm stating the obvious, but I hadn't realized how "dead" my old strings were. I had noticed over the past couple weeks how off tone my playing sounded but didn't realize how a few months of wear really affects the sound. Here's my question, I think I'm goi...

Re: Starting Blues...

I would highly recomend (and I think many on this board would as well) the book Blues You Can Use. Its a very well presented tutorial and gives you some great building blocks to work with. Another good thing I've found is to listen to as much blues music as you can. There are many fantastic blues gu...
