Re: Arrangement for two guitars?

For two intermediate players, sometimes the thing to do is some 12-bar blues improv. Not only will this likely sound great, but it will also improve both players ear and skill. One player plays a 12-bar blues chord progression, the other player plays an improv solo usually in the pentatonic minor an...

Just to be clear, not all wah pedals that have the step click on/off are true bypass.

Re: harmonic tuning

If you're tuning without a tuner, you should always tune by the A string. Tuning every string by the string before it will give you a poorly tuned instrument every time.

I apologize if someone's already said this, I skimmed the thread pretty fast.

Re: Band Drama

I think it's much more important to have someone who is on board, and going in the same direction as you. As long as he has the ability to learn the things you need him to learn in a reasonable amount of time. By the sounds of it, I wouldn't worry too much about it, although I'd definitely give him ...

Re: String bends

I'd definitely check the action. If it's too high, it can become a problem. Mostly though, if your finger slides a bit under the other strings, it's not a problem.

Re: 12-string electric

The guy setting guitars up, did he have long light brown hair? Shoulder length? If so, that's my guitar teacher. He works there too. Mike is the owner/president of Eastwood Guitars :) On a side note, I have an Eastwood Corona (SG style) and it really is a well made instrument. Edit: I just noticed i...

Re: sudden intonation failure

not noticeably to my fingers, although it is not my main guitar, so i might not notice slight changes. if it is the truss rod, do you think it can just be retightend or would it be broken?? The nut problem is more likely, I just thought I'd throw that idea out there in case. Typically if the neck w...

Re: 12-string electric

The Eastwood 12 strings are pretty nice guitars at a great price. http://www.eastwoodguitars.com/ Over XMas I visited the head office which has a little showroom (they are a 15 minute drive from where my parents live). I I live within walking distance of Eastwood :) Georgetown? Also, the showroom t...

Re: sudden intonation failure

Another idea might be the truss rod. It sounds like it might be out too much to be the truss rod, but I had a guitar that had a busted truss rod and the bow in the neck caused high action and therefore fretted notes were pulling sharp. Has the action changed at all?

Re: Pirate Songs?

You could maybe do an acoustic rendition of an Alestorm song :)

Unlikely, but it's worth checking them out anyway. Search Alestorm on youtube :)

Re: Blocking Trem on Strat-why?

I don't have my bookmarks here at work, but I will take a look when I get home, it's been awhile since I read about trem blocking. The reason I started reading about it was I blocked my Fender American Deluxe fat strat and my Ibanez S series (ZR trem). I had a local tech do it, so your results may v...

Re: More "Recent" Artists

One of my student's played Communist Daughter by Neutral Milk Hotel at a talent show last Friday night. Wasn't able to be there but (somewhat biased) reports say it went over pretty well. Nice! Although that wouldn't be the song I'd pick for a talent show as some of the lyrics are a bit "parental a...

Re: More "Recent" Artists

I've listened to about 75% of the bands listed. Most of them are at least decent, but I absolutely despise Animal Collective. Lots of people like them though, who knows. A few more: Agalloch (some growling vocals, but if you can get past it, beautiful acoustic music. Their entire discography is fant...

Re: Blocking Trem on Strat-why?

It's a very common myth that blocking a trem will increase sustain. At least on newer guitars (I'm not that sure about older ones) the trem is designed to increase sustain, and a guitar designed this way will actually lose sustain if you block the trem. I know this not only from reading, but from ex...

Re: F maj chord opinion

Yeah that's kind of the way I've always figured it. If you need the bass notes, you need the bass notes. It's just one of those things that makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong, like someone in the audience is going to whisper to his buddy "Oh wow did you see that poor man's Fmaj?" Haha :)
