Nice rig Voidious. What software you running on the Mac to record your stuff? 8) So far, I'm just using GarageBand and GearBox, the software the Toneport UX2 came with for amp modeling and effects. I've used Acid Pro (30 day trial) on Windows, which is clearly a lot more feature rich than GB, but G...

Well, I've been planning to get a bass for a while now - even had my cart at Musician's Friend all loaded up (which I'm sure is just asking for trouble) - but I've been putting it off as long as I could. Well, that period ended last weekend, a couple of days after a song I wrote started really comin...

Very nice looking Ibanez, Clau! I looked very closely at an SZ720FM when I was buying a couple months ago, it was very sweet to play and sounded great. And yours looks way cooler. :) I check on the net for picture of your guitar and those are beautiful guitar too! Don't know if yours has a one piec...

Rush's Snakes and Arrows and NIN's Year Zero are up there for me - was a great spring, as they are two of my all time favorite bands. In just the last few months months, I was turned onto Buckethead, which led to checking out Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, which led to Primus / Les Clay...

From the "off the top of my head" department: I'd initially say 5, 7, and 12 are the first ones you'd want marked: perfect 4th (also same pitch as next string), perfect 5th, and octave. Obviously 17 and 19 are the octave up of the 4th and 5th intervals. From there, 3 and 9 probably just seem more in...

I'm just curious - was that this show? http://www.primuslive.com/catalog/show.php?show_id=42 Description: "First Heckler of the tour!"

I've bought a few of the live shows from that site, they're great and a terrific value, IMO. That one sounds like it might not be so good, though. :?

Hey Embrace_the_Darkness - I just have to say that your post in this thread has turned out to be possibly the most valuable technique advice I've encountered yet. I didn't even realize that I was doing it, but I have always been supporting the neck with my left hand instead of considering it station...

Well, this thread has quite a few topics, but to stick to the original post somewhat... With music, to me, it's kind of like someone is ripping apart a religion. If someone ripped apart my sports teams I couldn't care less. I love sports, but it's not a "Religion" like music is for me. You know what...

Those fingerings are the exact same ones Wes posted (well, once you rotate them...). What do you see that's different about them? Those 5 "shapes" can each be placed anywhere along the neck (giving you a different key in each case).

If I posted this every time I thought it about all the great posters here at GN, it would be 95% of my posts... but I just gotta say thanks to Wes for a couple great, inspiring posts here. I must've read half a dozen similar posts from you in just the past few days, too. I might have to start saving...

The main disadvantage I've found in wrapping the thumb around is that some things (barre chords were mentioned) absolutely require me to put my thumb behind the neck. If I have my thumb already in that position, it's a much quicker and smoother transition to barre chords than if I have to reset my g...

Isn't that multiplied by 12 for knowing it in every key? :D Just kidding... Really, though, there's only one pentatonic minor (er, right?), shifted for whatever key you're in, and many different ways of fingering it. I like to think by the time I'm done learning the fretboard and playing scales all ...

I'm not really qualified to comment too much on forming / being in a band, but I did just want to say a couple things about working well in a group. First, I've found that if/when a leader (or two! in a bigger group...) naturally arises, letting that person lead (and that person having the confidenc...
