Re: Songwriting subconscious

For years I've been convinced that I don't dream. People tell me I'm crazy, everyone dreams. So now I tell people that I never remember my dreams. They think that's weird too, but at least they accept that it's possible, and don't bug me about it. :? At the risk of sounding just like 'them' - how d...

Re: Scales??? Huh???

My favourite rock-out tune, Wes ;) (today at least, it battles constantly with Aerosmith's Eat the Rich)

Re: New 12-String

Aye, it took me quite a bit of getting used to... it was the feeling of fretting that did it for me - it doesn't feel to me like I'm pressing on strings, more like I'm pressing on a spring-loaded lever or piano key (dunno about that analogy, it's hard to explain :)). I'm still not too good at making...

Re: Songwriting subconscious

I don't remember my dreams, pretty much ever. Once every few months I'll have a confused, fading memory of a vague something or other like "hey, wasn't I just on a boat?", and that's it. So, it is with deep and bitter jealousy that I say: you guys are all cheating!

Re: Other than guitar what do you play, or would like to?

I play bass too, but not terribly well. I really want to be able to play the drums or piano, but the closest I can get is drumming badly on a desk with my hands (can't co-ordinate my feet with my hands) and chopsticks or droned chords on the piano  ...Animal's Moon/Bonham inspired drumming... ...

Re: For those who "STILL" has their first guitar?

Yep, sat right behind me right now, plugged into my amp no less :) It's a Kay ET200 that I got for £35 half my life ago - it's hacked and mangled, new pickup, extra pickup, more switches etc., but not all by me. I've grown up around musos, and every single guitarist I've ever talked to for more tha...

Re: Crash course in mixing?

+1 for Reaper. Audacity is OK if you just want to record a few things as one-take or one-take per layer, anything else quickly becomes a major pain in the you-know-where. 'Bigger' software is fine if you want to spend the rest of your life learning to navigate through ten screens of pointless rubbis...

I need to watch it? I can only hope you're kidding and didn't see fit to use a smiley... I honestly can't tell with net people any more :( Anyhoo, here's a list of the songs used in the film (more than just the soundtrack album listing) to narrow your search: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478311/soun...

Re: Favorite Picks?

If it bends in any way, shape or form: I hate it... so Dunlop Big Stubby 3.0mm Bass pick for guitar, and fingers for the bass (using a pick on a bass is heresy ;))

Re: Anyone into Foo Fighters?

Love the Foos! Oh George from the first album, when stripped down and acoustic, is particularly beautiful (Not that it's not when plugged, just especially so when unplugged). Skin and Bones too. I'm hopefully going to get time to record a couple of things today, so I'll do you a little snippet of th...

Re: Stupid recording nerves

Yeah, I know that one  The part I'm working on now had 4 good takes (4 of far too many) for the first bit, and reviewing them I found a couple of tiny things wrong in each. I was still tinkering with tone too, so I thought I'd try taking the best two and panning one left and one right (quite s...

Re: Lyric/Song-Writing Don'ts?

Don't rhyme too heavily, it restricts what you say and how you word it. It also makes me wince. Do it with cliche and I'm in agony. That means you, Adams. Anyone who puts "stick to you" next to "stick like glue" should be banned from songwriting for life, and anyone who rhymes "fly" with "sky" shoul...
