Re: How low is too low?

Can't help you there. I play folk and rock, so all of my guitars usually stay in standard tuning, though they make occasional trips to drop-D-ville. I think they even once make the trek to drop-C (aka drop-D and then down a step - I don't know, drop-C sounds like a misnomer there) once upon a time. ...

Re: First original - ever!! :-)

That's fantastic to hear! For one, it's great that you got something that your happy with. There's nothing like a little self-satisfaction to keep the creativity rolling. And secondly, it means there's hope for the rest of us who haven't had that break-through yet! I've written bunches of little thi...

Keys and Positions

Here's a question that some of you more experienced players might be able to help me out with: Lately I've busting my chops on some ear-training exercises including picking (no pun intended) songs out by ear instead of always relying on tabs and sheet music. My hope is that this will help me to be a...

Re: acoustic Jazz

Kingpanzer makes a great point. Kingpanzer ....a king tank or something ? LOL, Couldn't resist... One of these days a typo will be the end of me, I just know it    Though my error does suggest a quite humorous image. Sounds like it should be a bad-guy in the Mario series!

Re: acoustic Jazz

Kingpanzer makes a great point. The term 'smooth jazz' tends to imply a specific brand of music that took some of the sounds of jazz and made them into an easy-listening format for commercialization. However, if you like that sound, there is lots of good jazz out there that you can still dig into. W...

Re: Sweet child O mine

It is a fantastic song, is it not? One of my all-time favorites! Anywho, if it is the amp, then you just need to mess around with the EQ until you get it right. Does you amp have the standard 'low', 'mid', and 'high' controls? If so, set them all to 5 (i.e. half) and then start changing them one at ...

Re: How to make a simple song sound more interesting?

Definately start with the lessons. They're a fantastic resource just riddled with little gems of ideas. Other than that, once you get the song solidly under your fingers, just try messing around and having some fun. Maybe set up and resolve a suspension (instead of just playing |D---|A---| try somet...

Re: SSG 6 / SCW 1 - Who and Why?

Hey all, my name is Jason. I've been playing guitar for about 4-5 years now, though I got my start in music about 10 years ago on the trumpet. I'd call myself a solid intermediate on the guitar. When it comes to songwriting, I've dabbled here and there with varying degrees of success. It's something...

There are two general ways to get a clear single note out of the harmonica: 1) Pucker: Shape your mouth like you're going to whistle, only just blow (or draw, depending on what note you want!). This will get the air into a single focus column which will be easier to put through just one hole. 2) Ton...

Cluching at straws here now Jason How about Dm6/Ab Eadgbe 4X343X That's the one! Well done! I was calling it G#dim7, but with diminished chords, you can name them with any note in the chord as the root (since all of the notes are separated by the same interval - a minor 3rd), so D is just as good. ...

Sorry Rodders! I've been slacking of late. But, you're getting closer...the two 3rd frets are right, but you have the wrong string muted and there are 4 notes. It's a chord from one of my favorite country songs. If you don't know my favorite country songs, well, you might start looking in "Low Place...

Nope, not Dm either. You guys have the D note nailed down, but the chord isn't quite so straightforward. As a little bit of a first hint, I'll tell you that there's a muted string in there, so two of the notes are a string apart.

You're in the right part of the fretboard, for sure! But not quite the chord I'm looking for.

Haha, I just stumbled across the game today, and I am definitely a fan of the idea, so I didn't want it to die out before I even tuned up
