Interface

I've been recording with a USB microphone and have been getting a background noise. I think it might be the sound card, so I'm thinking of getting a cheap interface. That would solve the problem, right? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Songs that hover around middle c

Hello, I've been trying to learn to sing lately, but I'm normally a very quiet person throughout the day, so may vocal chords are weak, and my range very small. Does anyone know of some good songs that hover around middle "c" a lot that I can start out with?
Thanks! :D :D :D

Re: Appoggiatura or Acciaccatura?

Ah, I listened to Steely Dan. I like that. I suppose I'm just caught up (probably needlessly) on the specifics. I supposed the rule of 1/2 or 2/3's is overly rigid. Does the appoggiatura then take the from timing of the melodic note, or come before it? Or is that up to the performer, as well?

Re: Appoggiatura or Acciaccatura?

This is from wiki, "ornaments are musical flourishes that are not necessary to carry the overall line of the melody (or harmony), but serve instead to decorate or 'ornament' that line." Appoggiaturas and acciaccaturas are both considered ornaments. Still, I can find only a few examples of either of ...

Re: Appoggiatura or Acciaccatura?

I'm not sure it isn't just a regular 16th note, but it has some characteristics of an appaggiatura. The note in question is actually not a chord tone. It looks like this: Yes - ter - da - ay I - I - IV - V <-----(edit)Oh, man. I was WAY off on this. I'm still getting used to recognizing notes. The I...

Appoggiatura or Acciaccatura?

Hey, I've been listening to McCartney's "Yesterday," and I've been trying to figure out if the grace note attached to "day" is an Appoggiatura or an Acciaccatura. As far as I can tell, it looks like this: Yes - ter - day 8th note - 16th note - dotted 8th note "Day" is further divided like this: Da -...

Hey, I recently got a keyboard, how do I hook it up as a MIDI device? Do I need to buy a sound card?

Thanks.

Sound Quality.

Hey I got a few questions. How can you tell what the sound quality you're recording at is? What is considered the "acceptable listening range?" I'm recording right now with audacity, does it have sound quality limitations, or is that dependent only on my microphone and sound card?

Thanks!!

Don't. Write songs about other things for a year and then go back to it. People think a lot of emotion equals a good song, but thats only the case if you already know how to write a good lyrics.
So, yeah, I would hold off. Have that be the thing that drives you.

I don't think just letting the high E string mute itself is a good habit to get into. The same thing happened to me some time ago and it drove me insane. Eventualy I figured out that all I had to do was raise the e string, because it kept getting mutted by the fret in front of it when I held the sec...

I like it. Although it would probably need some sort of chorus or something if you wanted to do anything with it.

What do you record with? It's crystal.
